The artist has travelled through the world, from Tokyo in 1990 to Palm Springs in 2004, no doubt influencing the landscapes he’s created on canvas. Typically in muted tones, Markey creates depth in paint, making these scenes come to life.
Markey has won prizes at several open exhibitions, including The London Group Exhibition in 1993, Discerning Eye 2011 and twice at the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Following these awards, he was selected in 2016 for inclusion in Towards Night, a survey show in Eastbourne. As well, his solo exhibition at the Redfern Gallery received a feature in the ‘critic’s choice’ section of the Financial Times. Some of his work is showcased at the British Museum in London, and The Royal West of England Academy in Bristol.
